The T-80BV tanks that arrived in the Kuril Islands are equipped with multi-channel gunner sights, weapon stabilizers, surveillance devices, radio stations, and modular explosive reactive armor.

In anticipation of new equipment, future crews mastered their control on simulators. After putting the vehicles into operation, the Kuril tankers managed to practice driving and shooting.
