Russia (bbabo.net) - Scientists in Novosibirsk, together with colleagues from St. Petersburg, have developed a new test system that detects the Omicron strain.

The test system simultaneously detects the presence of coronavirus genetic material and determines whether it belongs to the omicron strain.

“In order to create a new one based on a working test system, we added another enzyme and new probes focused on the specific detection of 3 out of 10 mutations that are unique to the omicron strain,” one of the developers of the system, molecular biologist Evgeny Pechkovsky, told TASS. - This, of course, affected the cost of the medical product. We expect the test to be 20-30% more expensive than a simple coronavirus test.

The test system is currently being registered. According to the developers, the study on the strain "omicron" will take 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Scientists say that separating "omicron" from other strains of coronavirus is important not only for understanding the global picture of the development of the pandemic, but also for effective treatment.
