Russia - Will there be enough doctors, beds and medicines in the regions to fight omicron

Russia (bbabo.net), - Covid statistics are scary. On Sunday, January 16, 29,230 new cases of covid were detected in Russia. This is the highest since mid-December last year. According to Tatyana Golikova, in 21 regions, the incidence of COVID-19 exceeded the national average. Not all cities, even near Moscow, have the opportunity to quickly do a PCR test. How to be? And will there be enough beds in the regions for all the sick?

PCR test is not for everyone

What to do if you have symptoms of SARS and you are puzzled if you have covid? It would seem that it is worth contacting the clinic at the place of residence, taking a test for COVID-19, and doubts will go away. However, as our staff correspondents have seen, it is far from being so simple. For example, it will not be possible to freely pass a covid test in St. Petersburg with symptoms of SARS - it is performed only as directed by a doctor. The situation is the same in Irkutsk - you can apply for testing at a polyclinic or covid center, but only with obvious symptoms of the disease. Otherwise, you will be advised to take the test on a paid basis.

Even when contacting a doctor in a polyclinic near Moscow with a severe runny nose, the correspondent was refused a referral for a PCR test. It was popularly explained that for this to happen, there must be more severe symptoms - high fever, cough and low saturation levels.

However, not everything is so bad. In some cities, you can test, as they say, without any problems. So, Novosibirsk Yuri Belousov, when signs of SARS appeared, called the district clinic and the next day he passed the PCR test.

You can easily get tested for coronavirus in Rostov-on-Don. For example, a correspondent with the question "Can I take a test for coronavirus?" contacted polyclinic No. 20 by phone. The employees of the medical institution, having specified the symptoms, immediately answered: “Come! A smear for covid will be taken for free.”

But Natalya Shmykova, a gynecologist from Izhevsk, was less fortunate. She first fell ill with covid last November, and when she wanted to receive medical assistance through the hospital at her place of residence, at first she could not call an ambulance, and then the local doctor. She had to do a coronavirus test in a private laboratory at her own expense.

In St. Petersburg, it will not be possible to take a test for coronavirus with symptoms of SARS. By prescription only

And only then, with a positive result, Natalya Shmykova called the "hot line" and applied for a sick leave online.

By the way, Novosibirsk scientists, together with colleagues from St. Petersburg, have developed a new test system that detects the Omicron strain. It simultaneously detects the presence of the genetic material of the coronavirus and determines whether it belongs to the "omicron" strain.

As Rossiyskaya Gazeta was told at the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine (ICBFM) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the timely detection of a new strain is very important for several reasons. The omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus is spreading many times faster than the strains that preceded it. In addition, it has a large number of mutations, which makes the strain more resistant to vaccines.

Mobilized dentists

In some regions, they are sounding the alarm - there are not enough doctors in outpatient clinics! So, in St. Petersburg, for example, the staff of polyclinics is being urgently staffed - primarily at the expense of residents and physicians of federal institutions that are not involved in helping patients with coronavirus. If this is not enough, the city health service plans to enlist senior medical students to help.

Already, senior medical students are working in the "red zones" in the Amur Region. "I'm already in my sixth year, so I'm doing the work of paramedical personnel," said Yulia Sukhareva, who is educated at the Amur Medical Academy. "There is an agreement that our shifts are mostly night shifts, and on weekends we go out for the day."

And in the Astrakhan region, as in many other regions of the country, there is no shortage of medical personnel in "covid" hospitals, there is only a shortage of staff in polyclinics. The same last-year students of medical schools also come to the rescue here - they go on house calls, deliver medicines, work for ambulances.

In the Novosibirsk region, the mobilization of non-core specialists is being prepared - up to dentists and psychologists. Such an order in connection with the preparations for the fifth wave of the pandemic and the possible penetration of "omicron" was issued by the leadership of the region.

Covid beds are waiting

In the Rostov region, due to the decline in the incidence, the number of covid beds has been reduced, but they were assured that if necessary, they can be quickly deployed again. In addition, a new Donskoy infection center with 260 beds was opened in the city.As correspondents managed to find out, there are enough "covid" beds in other regions. Till. In St. Petersburg, about 32 percent are free in hospitals. They are not reduced precisely because of the beds for patients with COVID-19. In the Ministry of Health of the Astrakhan region, the correspondent was reassured that in the event of an influx of patients, places will open, including in repurposed medical facilities.

Eight infectious disease and seven provisional hospitals continue to operate in the Amur Region, with a total of 1,300 beds. The free bed fund is 25.8 percent.

An observatory for 160 people has been deployed in the Nizhny Novgorod region - specifically to monitor those who arrive from countries where a new strain has been detected. The patients will be treated at three hospitals with 85 beds.

In addition, double thermometry is carried out at the Nizhny Novgorod airport for those arriving from "unfavorable" countries.

Regions have opened statistics on "omicron"

Earlier, infection with "omicron" was found in 40 regions of Russia, many of them imported. The first patients with the new strain were identified in the Far East. These are parents with a child who returned to Blagoveshchensk after a holiday in Turkey.

In the Sverdlovsk region, a new strain was detected in four people, the regional headquarters for coronavirus reported. Twice "omicron" was found in the Astrakhan region. In Rostov, on the other hand, three outbreaks were identified: in the hostel of the university and two at home, not connected with each other - a child and a woman fell ill in different families. "These people did not travel abroad and did not have contacts with citizens who returned from other countries. Therefore, omicron has a local distribution with all the ensuing risks," said Yevgeny Kovalev, Chief Sanitary Doctor of the region.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, one case of the disease "omicron" is officially known today - a 28-year-old girl who became infected, she was not vaccinated, and in a state of moderate severity she was hospitalized in an infectious diseases hospital.
