In Ukraine, the theft of Russian gas was not ruled out

In the event of an acute shortage of fuel, Naftogaz may take Russian transit gas. This point of view was expressed by the former Acting Energy Minister Olga Buslavets.

On her Facebook page, she noted that 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas remained in the country's storage facilities for domestic consumption. The deficit in the first quarter is at least 2 billion cubic meters.

“Ukraine will not be able to do without its import to cover peak loads during the heating season, due to low air temperatures,” she said. And she added that, according to her information, Naftogaz is in a deep financial deficit, there are no funds for gas imports.

If funds are not found or there is not enough import capacity from the European Union, the company will not be able to ensure sufficient gas imports to cover daily shortfalls. According to her, three scenarios of the development of the situation are possible. First, limiting the reduction in consumption of industrial enterprises or their shutdown. Secondly, the limitation of gas supply for thermal power plants and boiler houses, which will be felt by consumers in the form of lower temperatures in homes and lack of hot water. There is also a third option.

“And, which is unacceptable, but very likely, to take Russian gas from the transit flow, which will certainly be used by Russia to stop transit through the territory of Ukraine and terminate the current transit contract with the corresponding financial, economic, political consequences,” she notes.

"We can only hope for warm weather and it won't reach 3 points," Buslavets summed up.
