In the US, they were surprised by the good relations between Russia and Germany

Because of the "strange Russophilia" of Germany, Western countries cannot rely on Berlin in the event of a conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the publicist Andreas Kluth in his article for Bloomberg.

According to him, the United States and other Western allies have long been "irritated" by the German policy of "dodging responsibility" and "excessive pacifism" in relations with Moscow.

“To this false pacifism is mixed a strange kind of Russophilia, usually accompanied by thinly disguised anti-Americanism,” writes Klut.

He believes that the "mantra" of Germany's Social Democrats is: "Talk to the Russians long enough and everything will be fine." For example, Berlin agreed to build the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which, in its opinion, the German authorities should abandon.

“The Germans make concessions only to Russia and do not pay attention to the fears of other partners in Eastern Europe, who have historical traumas in relation to the Germans and Russians. Among them are Ukrainians and EU members such as Poland and the Baltic countries,” the publicist sums up.

Earlier, a member of the Alternative for Germany party, Sergei Henke, said that the mutual rapprochement between Russia and Germany was “inevitable”.

German political scientist Alexander Rahr noted that German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, during negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, recognized her interest in Russian gas, although before that the policy’s position was more “ideologized” in relation to Russia, she “wanted to make "Nord Stream - 2" ruin at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
