German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Kiev on February 14. On the same day, he will hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Interfax-Ukraine reports with reference to the office of the Ukrainian President.

The office noted that Germany is one of the key partners and allies of Ukraine and plays an important mediating role within the Normandy format.

“The visit of the Federal Chancellor of Germany to our state demonstrates Euro-Atlantic unity and support for Ukraine during security challenges for the whole of Europe,” the office of the Ukrainian president said.

Earlier, a spokesman for the German Defense Ministry said that Germany would continue to adhere to a policy of banning the sale of weapons to countries with territorial conflicts, in particular to Ukraine.

Later, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht proposed an alternative to arms supplies to Ukraine. So, according to her, Berlin allocated €5.3 million for a mobile field hospital for the Ukrainian army. She added that Germany would also provide Ukraine with training on the construction and use of the hospital. Lambrecht noted that everything possible must be done to de-escalate, so the supply of weapons is useless at the moment.
