Stoltenberg appointed governor of Norway's central bank

Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, whose term in the alliance expires on September 30, 2022, has been appointed head of the Central Bank of Norway, according to local media. Stoltenberg announced his intention to nominate a candidate for this post in December last year.

Stoltenberg is due to start working in his new position on March 1, but he intends to fully finalize his mandate as NATO Secretary General by autumn. The acting head of the Central Bank of Norway during this period will be the current deputy head of the bank, Ida Volden Bahe, who was Stoltenberg's main competitor in the selection of candidates. Prior to NATO leadership, he served twice as prime minister of Norway, and was also the kingdom's finance minister.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on Stoltenberg to resign from the post of NATO Secretary General because he is not coping with his duties. “If Stoltenberg believes that NATO members have the right to spit on the principle of equal and indivisible security, then it’s really time for him to leave for another job, because he can’t cope with his duties,” Lavrov noted. “He constantly makes some not very adequate statements But he is going to leave soon, his term ends at the end of the year. They say he is going to work at the Central Bank of Norway."
