Poroshenko responded to Putin's offer of asylum

The former president of Ukraine and the current deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Petro Poroshenko, reacted in Telegram to the words of Russian leader Vladimir Putin about granting asylum to the Ukrainian politician "for humanitarian reasons."

Currently, Poroshenko is suspected in Ukraine of high treason, which consists in organizing the export of coal from the Donbass for a total amount of about 1.5 billion hryvnias (4 billion rubles). According to investigators, the ex-president acted in collusion with the Russian authorities and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

Poroshenko called the criminal case against himself a “gift” to Russian leader Vladimir Putin from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was advised by the suspect to “direct his efforts and the efforts of law enforcement agencies” to protect the country.

“And for Vladimir Vladimirovich to finally realize that we will figure it out ourselves here in Ukraine. And the age-old Russian practice of “taking care” of Ukrainian politics and politicians has long ceased. This happened when I was elected President of Ukraine,” Poroshenko wrote.

On January 19, the court chose a preventive measure against Poroshenko, determining his personal obligation to appear in court. He was also ordered to surrender his foreign passport. The politician refused to testify, calling the proceedings "a show in the style of Zelensky."
