Pentagon sees no Russian buildup on NATO's eastern flank

The United States sees no direct threat to NATO's eastern flank from Russian forces. This was stated by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby at a briefing.

"There are no specific or additional threats coming directly from Russia to NATO's eastern flank," Kirby said.

At the same time, he added that the United States still sees a large concentration of Russian troops on the border of Russia and Ukraine, as well as in Belarus.

“Only over the [past] weekend did we see that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin increased the potential [focused] near the border with Ukraine and then Belarus,” a Pentagon spokesman said.

According to the data presented by him, the grouping of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine includes "much more than 100 thousand people and continues to grow."

In recent months, statements have been made in the West and Ukraine in particular about Russia's allegedly impending "invasion" of Ukraine. In turn, the Kremlin has more than once directly denied any plans for an attack.

The head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, said that he did not see "momentary" military threats from Russia. According to him, "sooner or later" the alleged invasion of Ukraine may happen, but there is no "momentary risk." He also said that the likelihood of an escalation around the country could be assessed as low.

At the same time, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan believes that Russia could invade at any moment and try to “annex Donbass.”
