NATO announced the largest build-up of Russian military forces in Belarus

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that in recent days, the alliance has witnessed the largest build-up of Russian military forces in Belarus since the Cold War. The Secretary General said this after a meeting with Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevski, TASS reports.

“This is the largest deployment of Russian forces there since the Cold War, with what is expected to be 30,000 combat troops, special forces units, the latest fighter aircraft, including the Su-35, Iskander dual-purpose missile systems and S-400 air defense systems.” Stoltenberg said.

According to him, all this is happening in parallel with the preparations for the exercises of the Russian nuclear forces. The head of NATO called on Russia "to de-escalate."

Earlier, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the United States would soon send additional military forces to Romania, Poland and Germany. According to him, forces are sent to the region "not forever" and the decision is "a reaction to the current situation."

In recent months, statements have been made in the West and Ukraine in particular about Russia's allegedly impending "invasion" of Ukraine. In turn, the Kremlin more than once directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine, on the contrary, pointing to the possible preparation of a military operation in the Donbass by Kiev.
