The US administration urged Asian countries to reduce purchases of reduced natural gas shipments so that it can be shipped to Europe in the event of a reduction in Russian gas supplies to the region due to the situation with Ukraine. It is reported by Bloomberg.
For example, US President Joe Biden's team, led by State Department energy security adviser Amos Hochstein, has already turned to China, Japan, South Korea, and India.
In addition, negotiations were held with gas producers from Qatar, Nigeria, Egypt, Libya and Algeria. They were urged to increase LNG production in the event of hostilities in Ukraine.
The Biden administration also consulted with oil and gas companies such as Chevron and ExxonMobil.
Earlier, The New Republic reported that the US authorities are using the “Russian threat” and escalating the situation around Ukraine in order to promote their gas in Europe.
Prior to this, Austrian Energy and Innovation Minister Leonore Gewessler said that the country is dependent on Russian gas and intends to fight this dependence.
