Protection of rights in the first place: Poklonskaya spoke about the appointment to Rossotrudnichestvo

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed ex-Prosecutor of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya as Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo. Poklonskaya, in turn, promised that she would work for the benefit of the Russians. In October last year, she was appointed to the post of Ambassador of Cape Verde. Ukrainian officials began to threaten her with extradition and criminal prosecution. The President of Russia increased the number of deputy heads of Rossotrudnichestvo from five to six.

With one decree, Putin appointed Poklonskaya deputy head of the Federal Agency for the CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), and with another he dismissed the ambassador to Cape Verde.

Together with Poklonskaya, Ilya Balanin became the deputy head of the agency. Prior to that, he was deputy governor of the Yaroslavl region.

Poklonskaya has already responded to her appointment. She stated that, first of all, she would protect the rights of Russians in other countries, in particular in Ukraine.

“In Rossotrudnichestvo and in this position, I will try to fulfill my duties with dignity for the good of our Motherland and for the good of people. Of course, I will try to do everything that depends on me in order to strengthen our positions and fulfill our duties with dignity, ”said Poklonskaya.

Information that she should be appointed to this position was leaked to the media at the end of January. But the Kremlin did not comment on these rumors. Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the appointments are not announced or discussed with journalists.

Remained in Russia

In October last year, Putin announced the appointment of Poklonskaya as Ambassador to Cape Verde. This was followed by threats from Ukrainian politicians that they would request the extradition of the ex-prosecutor of Crimea.

In Ukraine, a criminal case has been opened against the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksenov and Natalia Poklonskaya. According to investigators, in February and March 2014, they created a "criminal organization" whose forces "overthrew the constitutional order and changed the borders of Ukraine, assisting Russia."

They are charged with a number of crimes: treason, encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, the seizure of state power, and more. A total of eight people are accused.

On November 30, the court allowed Aksyonov to be detained. Against Poklonskaya, a similar decision was made on December 7. But they can be arrested only when they arrive in Ukraine.

In her Telegram channel, Poklonskaya urged the Kiev authorities to deal with local traitors “under their noses”, and not “look into Russia.”

“Colleagues, get busy. Deal with those who organized the coup in 2014, and then the mess in the country will end. I can help if it doesn’t work out on my own,” she added.

On January 19, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Poklonskaya would not go to Cape Verde as an ambassador for personal reasons.

On February 2, Natalia Poklonskaya said she was ready to help Kiev understand why the Crimean Peninsula became part of Russia in 2014. Shortly before this, the people's deputies of Ukraine created a temporary commission to investigate the facts that influenced the loss of the region.

“I am ready to assist the commission and argue my findings at any meeting and proceedings in two languages, both in Russian and Ukrainian,” the ex-prosecutor noted.

In her opinion, the fact that the Ukrainian authorities thought about the reasons for what happened is a “positive shift”, since there is “a hint of recognition of obvious things - the referendum passed and there was a reason for this.”

Poklonskaya added that the coup d'état after the "bloody events on the Maidan" was the reason. She noted that the Crimeans did not agree with the new government. “Under the threat of reprisals, the peninsula, on the defensive, held a referendum,” she concluded.
