Putin will decide whether to continue dialogue with the United States

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that after an interdepartmental analysis of documents submitted by the US and NATO on security guarantees, Russian President Vladimir Putin will decide on the advisability of dialogue with the American side. The ambassador said this in an interview with Newsweek.

According to Antonov, Moscow is "not happy" with the American response, as Washington suggested focusing on important, but mostly secondary issues.

Antonov noted that "due to the American colleagues' predilection for vague language and their desire to negotiate security guarantees behind closed doors," the public has a misconception about where the process is. The ambassador also stressed that "the main problem is that the NATO countries strengthen their security by weakening Russia" and Moscow does not agree with this approach.

On January 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry received a written response from the United States and NATO to proposals for security guarantees. As Vladimir Putin commented on the messages, the United States ignored the fundamental points of Russia's proposals, in particular on the issue of preventing the strengthening of anyone's security at the expense of the security of other states.
