The Russian Foreign Ministry promised retaliatory measures after the ban on broadcasting RT DE in Germany

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on retaliatory measures after the decision of the Commission for Licensing and Supervision of Germany to ban the broadcasting of the RT DE TV channel.

The Foreign Ministry said that the German regulator ordered RT DE to stop satellite and other broadcasting, “referring to the lack of a permit issued by national regulatory authorities,” but this decision was made despite the fact that the media operated on the basis of a satellite broadcasting license issued by Serbia in full compliance with the European Convention on Transfrontier Television, to which Germany is also a party.

As noted in the department, the German side was repeatedly pointed out to the unacceptability of exerting politically conditioned pressure on the Russian media operator and warned of countermeasures if Berlin refused to find a constructive solution to the problem it created with RT DE.

“The verdict of the German media regulator is an unambiguous signal that Russian concerns are defiantly ignored. This step deprives us of any other choice but to start implementing retaliatory measures against German media accredited in Russia, as well as Internet intermediaries who have arbitrarily and unreasonably deleted the channel’s accounts from their platforms,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
