Pentagon: Forces sent to Europe are not intended for combat

The military contingent that the United States intends to deploy to Eastern Europe is not intended for military operations in Ukraine, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on February 2 at a briefing.

According to him, the forces moving to Europe "are trained and equipped to carry out various missions to deter aggression and protect our allies ... and are not intended to conduct hostilities in Ukraine."

According to him, American troops are needed in Europe to respond to the current security situation.

We are talking about a contingent of several thousand American troops. Earlier, CNN reported that about 8.5 thousand military personnel were put on high alert in the United States.

According to a Pentagon spokesman, the military will be deployed on a temporary basis in Germany, Poland and Romania. It is known that it is planned to quarter 2-2.5 thousand military personnel in Poland.
