Many-faced Russian world: Putin urged to develop and make it attractive

In the Catherine's Hall of the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin presented state awards to more than 20 Russians for outstanding achievements in various fields of activity. During his speech, he emphasized that thanks to people like them, it is possible to fulfill the mission of strengthening and developing the Russian world. One of the tasks of the Russian authorities is to strengthen the multi-confessional and multi-ethnic Russian world, Vladimir Putin believes.

“He is such a many-sided Russian world, huge. We didn't create it. Our mission is to strengthen it, develop it and make it attractive for our citizens, for the whole world,” the head of state said at the ceremony of presenting state awards in the Kremlin.

He emphasized that it is possible to carry out the mission thanks to people like those who were present in the Catherine's Hall. It was there that the president presented the highest state awards to more than 20 outstanding figures in the field of science, medicine, aviation, art, business and other fields.

The Russian World

On the eve of February 1, the Russian ambassador to Germany, Sergei Nechaev, in an interview with a German TV channel, said that Russia considers the inhabitants of Ukraine to be a fraternal people and "has never threatened them."

According to the German journalist, such words of a diplomat may sound “threatening” for Ukrainians. “But this is a fact, and I do not see any threat here,” Nechaev answered him.

At the end of December last year, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for the rallying of the Russian world. He stressed that it is also necessary to develop ties between historical Russia and the diasporas.

Last year, an international scandal broke out on the topic of the Russian world. Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia considers Ukraine part of the Russian world, since a significant part of the citizens of this country are Russian speakers. The Kremlin spokesman stressed that Moscow intends to promote this ideology, but with the help of soft power - without using "methods that are contrary to international law."

In response to this, the people's deputies of the Verkhovna Rada from the pro-presidential faction "Servant of the People" Oleg Dunde and Oleksandr Aliksychuk submitted two bills for consideration by their colleagues. One was devoted to criminal prosecution for propaganda of the ideology of the Russian world, and the second condemned such a concept in principle.

Political scientist, journalist Yuriy Svetov ironically remarked on Sputnik radio that Ukrainian parliamentarians should have taken documents not to the Rada, but directly to the UN.

“They would propose to ban the word “Russian” altogether. Those ideas, statements that we hear simply make us think about the state of mind of the people who are entrusted with power,” the source said.

According to him, polls show that Ukrainians are more concerned about social issues than political ones: peace in the Donbass, rising prices for utilities, low wages. “And in response to this they are told, they say, we will ban the Russian world, we will cut off even more water to the Crimea, we will hold some kind of crazy conference. All in one row. I remember “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll and the distraught March Hare,” Svetov expressed his opinion.

This scandal took place in the spring, and in the middle of summer the Russian president published an article "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians." It was released in two languages. Putin stressed that the wall that has arisen between the countries is a great misfortune and tragedy, and once again recalled Moscow's position - the Russian and Ukrainian peoples are a single whole.
