Russia - The term for obtaining Russian citizenship may be reduced to three months

Russia (bbabo.net), - It is planned to reduce the period for consideration of applications for admission to Russian citizenship under the general procedure from one year to 3 months.

The change will also affect persons in refugee status, contracted military personnel and persons granted political asylum. This was reported by TASS on Saturday with reference to the press center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The department reported that the changes are spelled out in the draft law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation", which is now being considered by deputies of the lower house of parliament.

Earlier it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft basic law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation". On February 2, this bill was approved by the Russian government.

The main message of this document is to simplify the procedure for acquiring Russian citizenship, which is still bureaucratic. The bill also provides, for example, a significant reduction in the number of requirements for more than 20 categories of persons when they are admitted to Russian citizenship.

It is also proposed to expand the powers of the head of state to determine the categories of persons who are entitled to a simplified receipt of a Russian passport. In particular, the president will be able to determine the categories of such persons not only for humanitarian purposes, but also for any other purposes. The President will also consider the issue of admitting or restoring Russian citizenship to "foreign citizens and stateless persons under a general or simplified procedure who have entry restrictions, used false documents, are in military service, in the service of security agencies or in law enforcement agencies of a foreign state. unless otherwise provided by an international treaty of Russia".
