Peskov: Putin's Munich speech was a call not to hide his head in the sand

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin's speech at the 2007 Munich Conference was not aggressive. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to him, after the speech, Putin spoke with Western journalists to show them "in fact, the extremely constructive nature" of the speech. Ultimately, however, the collective West dubbed the Russian president's words "the most aggressive thing they've heard in recent memory."

“I still believe there is nothing aggressive there. This is an absolutely constructive speech, it is a call not to hide one's head in the sand like ostriches, but to tackle the problems that will inevitably grow to their full height in the coming years. But, unfortunately, they didn’t listen,” Peskov added.

He also explained why Putin's speech is revolutionary.

Speaking at the Munich Conference in 2007, the head of Russia severely criticized US foreign policy and the idea of a unipolar world order, spoke out against plans to expand deploy US missile defense facilities in Eastern Europe.
