The British Minister of Defense expressed his readiness to discuss security guarantees with Shoigu

British Defense Minister Ben Wallace expressed his readiness to discuss topical issues of international security with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in order to reduce overall tension, RIA Novosti reports.

Wallace stressed that he and Shoigu, as defense ministers, must be determined to fight "insecurity" in the world.

“We can try to go ahead, resolve our issues through diplomacy and other measures, as well as through general confidence-building measures,” he suggested.

The British minister also noted that Shoigu's opening speech "starts relations", which before that "were practically zero." According to him, some of the issues raised by his Russian counterpart "can be resolved," as well as the issues raised by Moscow in the project on security guarantees.

Wallace thanked Shoigu for his willingness to meet at this difficult time and expressed the hope that through joint efforts they will be able to “influence the climate, the economy and migration, which could reduce the overall tension.

Earlier, the British Minister, together with Sergei Shoigu, laid a wreath on behalf of the British government at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Wallace stressed that he remembers the sacrifices that the Russian people suffered during World War II and past wars, and that he does not want other soldiers to die in the future.
