Poroshenko admitted that he instructed to take gold out of Crimea in 2014

Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he gave instructions to take four billion hryvnias ($145 million) in cash and gold out of Crimea in 2014. He announced this in the courtroom, RIA Novosti reports.

“I would like to confess: yes, I gave instructions directly on the movement of cash across the line of contact with the occupied Crimea,” he said.

According to him, he also called Russian President Vladimir Putin to coordinate his actions with him.

Earlier, Putin said that he had promised former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko political asylum if he had difficulties. The head of state announced this at a press conference following talks with French leader Emmanuel Macron.

On January 19, the court chose a preventive measure against Poroshenko, determining his personal obligation to appear in court. He was also ordered to surrender his passport to travel abroad. Investigators charge him with treason and participation in the organization of a scheme for the export of coal from the Donbass to Ukraine for a total amount of about 1.5 billion hryvnias (4 billion rubles). According to investigators, the ex-president of Ukraine acted in collusion with the Russian leadership and the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass.
