The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, published a message on her Telegram channel in which she commented on the words of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg about the real risk of a military conflict in Europe and about the intentions to strengthen the presence of the alliance in the east against the background of the tense situation around Ukraine.
Zakharova recalled his statements that there is a real risk of a new military conflict in Europe due to the situation around Ukraine, as well as intentions to strengthen the presence of the alliance in Eastern Europe.
“But what is really happening: NATO continues to increase its presence near the borders of Russia and creates an excuse for this in the form of escalating the situation around Ukraine,” she wrote in her post.
Early NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed the intention to strengthen the military presence in Eastern Europe. Stoltenberg noted that NATO is considering the possibility of deploying new battle groups not only in Romania, but also in other countries of the Black Sea region.
