He didn't get personal. Putin's words about Ukraine caused outrage in the United States

The phrase "be patient, my beauty", said in relation to Ukraine, did not have a "personal dimension", said Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, he never got personal during the years of his work. The head of state explained that his words should be understood in the context of the need to comply with the Minsk agreements. In the US, they were "outraged by the rape joke." President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin explained his words "like it, don't like it - be patient, my beauty", which attracted a lot of attention from the media and foreign politicians. He stated this in response to a question from a Life.ru reporter during a briefing after a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

“I have never become personal in my work for many years, and this had no personal dimension,” said the head of state.

According to Putin, he said this phrase in the context of the topic of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements on February 7, following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Kremlin.

Putin recalled during a press conference the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he “does not like a single point” of the Minsk agreements. “Well, like it, don’t like it, be patient, my beauty. We must comply,” the Russian president said at the time.

In the United States, Putin's words were perceived negatively - White House press secretary Jen Psaki emphasized that Washington would be outraged by any jokes about rape. One of the correspondents told Psaki during a briefing that "many Russian speakers interpreted the [Russian] president's phrase about Ukraine as a joke about rape."

"I would say that any joke about rape would certainly outrage everyone in the US administration, whether it comes from the mouth of an American or a foreign official",

- said the representative of the President of the United States.

She added that the United States has always openly expressed its concern about the "warlike rhetoric" of the Russian leader.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said two days earlier that Ukraine was indeed “beautiful,” after meeting with French leader Macron, who flew to Kiev from Moscow.

“Certainly, there are things that you cannot argue with the President of Russia. Ukraine is really beautiful. As for “mine”, this is already too much, ”he said. Zelensky added that Ukraine is also “patient because it is wisdom.”

“Our patience affects provocations, when we do not respond, but behave very worthily,” the Ukrainian head believes.

Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky later said that if the President of Ukraine was trying to joke, it was very ridiculous. The political scientist expressed his opinion on the air of the channel "First Cossack" on YouTube.

“I switched the arrows that like Putin meant Ukraine, that she is also a beauty, only not yours, but mine. Well, he carried all nonsense in response and looked like a simple fool, the most elementary one, ”the expert assessed Zelensky’s words.

Pogrebinsky added that the President of Ukraine decided in vain to joke, forgetting about the main meaning of Putin's words - Ukraine's obligation to comply with the Minsk agreements.

French President Emmanuel Macron, after meeting with Zelensky, said that the Ukrainian leader confirmed the country's readiness to implement the Minsk agreements. He added that Kiev had declared its commitment to maintaining the truce in Donbass. The French leader at the same time called the Minsk agreements "the only basis for resolving the crisis in Ukraine."

“We agreed with the President of France that he would call after a series of his consultations not only in Kiev, but with European countries, with American partners. But, as I understand it, they (negotiations) have not yet ended until such a conversation has taken place, ”said Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 10.
