Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called information that Russia is allegedly preparing an operation to seize Kiev and other cities of Ukraine speculation. He announced this at a press conference following talks with British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, TASS reports.

According to him, even respected Western media are speculating on this topic.

The minister also pointed out that the press is circulating the theme that Moscow is allegedly preparing a coup in order to "plant the so-called puppet regime in the Ukrainian capital."

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is exerting psychological pressure on Ukraine with its troops near the border.

The story of a possible “Russian invasion” of Ukraine has been actively promoted in the West since mid-autumn last year. The U.S. has consistently pointed to a supposed increase in Russian forces near the Ukrainian border, threatening Moscow with new sanctions if it escalates. At the same time, the Kremlin has more than once directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine.
