Governor General of Canada tests positive for coronavirus

Canadian Governor General Mary Simon has tested positive for the coronavirus and has gone into self-isolation. This was reported by her press service on Twitter.

“I tested positive for COVID-19 this morning and currently have mild symptoms of the disease. I will continue to self-isolate and get some rest in the coming days,” Simon said.

On January 27, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted that he had gone into self-isolation for five days after coming into contact with someone infected with the coronavirus. He stated that he would work from home.

However, on January 29, he and his family left their home in Ottawa out of fear for their safety amid mass protests by truck drivers. The protesters demanded the cancellation of the anti-COVID package, which came into force on January 15. The authorities have ordered unvaccinated truckers who return from the United States to take PCR tests and maintain a 14-day quarantine. According to EAdaily, those truckers who were vaccinated also took part in the action. They are not against quarantine measures, but against the "policy of coercion and the division of citizens into categories."
