Russian Ambassador to France Meshkov called Russian diplomacy fireproof

Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov spoke about the peculiarities of Russian diplomacy. As he noted in a conversation with REN TV, "our diplomatic school is fireproof."

“We have been facing difficulties for centuries. My generation of diplomats came at the end of the Cold War. We also saw sanctions and the struggle for the deployment of missiles in Europe, so this deja vu is unpleasant, ”Meshkov shared with the publication.

At the same time, according to him, the main thing is not the difficulties that need to be overcome, but the main thing is when a great country stands behind the diplomats.

“When you defend the truth, all these difficulties are leveled,” the ambassador said.

French diplomacy, like Russian diplomacy, has a long tradition, Meshkov said. He recalled that diplomatic relations between the two states have been actively developing since the time of Peter the Great for 300 years.

The diplomat admitted that it is often more comfortable to work with French colleagues than with other countries. In his opinion, the special charm of French diplomacy is the use of elements of soft power.

“From French cheeses and wine to French art and culture. All this adds special elements to French diplomacy,” the expert believes.

February 10 is the Diplomatic Worker's Day.

Earlier, Russian Consul General in New York, Sergei Ovsyannikov, said that for the first time in history, only five people work at the consulate due to US policy, in January the number was more than halved.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that the US authorities continue to threaten him with expulsion as part of a bidding for members of their diplomatic missions.
