Russia - Southern Federal University celebrated the Day of Russian Science

Russia (bbabo.net), - Southern Federal University - one of the leading universities in Russia - celebrated the Day of Russian Science on a grand scale. This is a great holiday for the scientists of the scientific center, as well as for its numerous students, because great attention is paid here to the development of various branches of science, as well as to the training of young researchers.

In 2021, the federal program of academic strategic leadership "Priority 2030" was launched at SFedU, and he became one of the winners.

As the rector of the Southern Federal University Inna Shevchenko noted, today the university is creating the most modern technological platforms for science and education, which will allow working at high speeds in dynamically changing conditions, as well as giving fairly quick results that the country and society need today.

- We have formulated a new mission of the university, considering SFedU as a space of meanings and possibilities. Each student, teacher, researcher, partner and graduate can acquire a new meaning through educational programs, additional education programs, participating in scientific work, - Inna Shevchenko emphasized.

The program of strategic academic leadership "Priority 2030" has become part of a broad state policy, where science and universities are part of the state priorities. And we, as a university included in the list of 18 research universities, feel a huge impetus and responsibility for the results that the country expects from us.

Leading scientists of the university took part in the press conference.

As noted by Alexander Soldatov, SFedU's research supervisor in the field of materials, Southern Federal University is one of the world leaders in the field of X-ray absorption spectroscopy. And nanodiagnostics of materials based on XANES spectroscopy based on synchotron sources is an important area of scientific activity of the university, which will allow changing the paradigm of using megascience centers: from pure diagnostics to accelerated production of new materials.

- The strategic goal of SFedU is to become a global research university in key areas of current scientific innovation in the field of knowledge, high technology and social construction, ensuring the innovative development of the South of Russia, national security and competitiveness of the country, - Evgeny Mukhanov, Vice-Rector for Strategic and Innovative Development of SFedU, believes.

It should be noted that according to the results of the implementation of the strategic academic leadership program in 2021, three breakthrough research laboratories were opened at SFedU, modern scientific equipment worth more than 39 million rubles was purchased. And within the framework of the "Postgraduate Student - Supervisor" program, 20 projects received grant support, and the program for attracting postdocs is actively developing.

Meanwhile, scientific activity is in full swing in the SFedU laboratories. In the international research laboratory of functional nanomaterials and complex antitumor technologies, scientific experiments are being carried out to create drugs that affect cancer cells.

The soil is examined under the most powerful microscopes at the Academy of Biology and Biotechnology. In the Laboratory of Nanostructured Materials of Electrochemical Energy, experiments are being carried out on catalysts and nanoparticles. And in the laboratory of electron microscopy, crystals are grown using special furnaces.

All these studies are aimed at making new discoveries and becoming a breakthrough in modern technologies.

Vice-Rector for Project Activities Maxim Bondarev is sure that the main guidelines for 2022 are the recruitment of future global research leaders, the modernization of the educational programs of the master's program of the Priority track, the development of a network of expert councils in the areas of strategic projects, as well as the introduction and testing of a management system for individual educational trajectories.

Head of the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources Assessment, Professor Tatyana Minkina also believes that the Priority 2030 program in the field of soil management and agroclimatology, which are aimed at improving the condition of soils and human health, is necessary. After all, soils ensure the production of 99.8% of biomass on Earth and the production of up to 95% of food.

Thanks to the developments of SFedU scientists, the Rostov region has already become a platform for soil digitalization. Modern technologies allow you to control fertility, heal the soil and monitor its condition. Data centers, an electronic soil atlas of our region, and digital fields have already been created for this.

- We also conduct research together with chemists and physicists at mega-science synchrotron facilities. The use of electron microscopy made it possible to study at the cellular level, those processes that occur under technogenic impact, with soil nano-contamination, Tatiana Minkina specified.SFedU actively conducts research in the field of neurotechnologies. Neural interfaces are a key technology that can solve important problems for people with disabilities, the development of a person's intellectual potential. Over the past five years, SFedU has completed a set of projects that have developed these areas. For example, among them is the development of a technology for creating biohybrid sensor systems, a complex of neurotechnologies designed to manage human capital for high-tech enterprises, and the creation of a stimulus-independent model of a non-invasive (non-destructive) brain-computer neural interface.

Now there are plans for the near future in this topical direction. Valery Kiroy, Chief Researcher at the SFedU Neurotechnological Research Center for Neurotechnology, noted that biocompatible nanomaterials, nanosystems and microelectronics are being developed for non-destructive neurointerfaces of a new generation, methods and means for their delivery and removal from the brain, extracting information from the recorded activity and its translation into the brain, experimental verification of the developed approaches, methods and tools in model studies on animals.

Director of the Institute of Sociology and Regional Studies of the SFedU Andrey Bedrik spoke about the implementation of socio-humanitarian strategic projects aimed at creating conditions for civil peace and harmonization of interethnic and interfaith relations among the youth. One of these projects is the SFedU Ethnocultural Code, which has already been implemented by the University since 2021.

Events dedicated to the Day of Russian Science were also held in other departments of the Southern Federal University. So, in Taganrog, in the "Boiling Point" of ITA SFU, the start of the SfeduStartups program was presented. One of them was a pitch session with a presentation of their own startups, which was attended by 12 student teams from different departments of the SFedU.

The presented projects were dedicated to VR technologies, a service for teachers, the creation of an open knowledge base, a school humanitarian movement, helping children with disabilities, the launch of a virtual culinary assistant, and much more.

For example, student Victoria Elizarova plans to develop a set of technological maps or a summary for conducting classes on the correction of speech disorders in younger students. To do this, animated films will be created on five topics, working on which children will develop speech.

According to Stanislav Trufanov, Director of the Project Office for the Development of Innovative and Entrepreneurial Competences of the SFedU, eight of the submitted projects will be selected, and at the end of February, another selection will take place at the Boiling Point of the SFedU in Rostov-on-Don. As a result, a pool of projects will be formed, which will be implemented with support.

On the Day of Russian Science in SFedU, a round table was also held online on the topic "Experience and prospects for creating high-tech industries in the framework of Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 218". It was attended by SFedU President Marina Borovskaya, SFedU Vice-Rector for Strategic and Innovative Development Yevgeny Mukhanov and other representatives of the university, as well as industrial partners of SFedU.
