Latvia was accused of wanting to curtail ties with Russia

Russian Ambassador to Latvia Mikhail Vanin said that the Latvian authorities are deliberately curtailing ties with Russia, TASS reports.

According to him, the work of the joint commission of historians has been “frozen” for several years, inter-parliamentary cooperation is also in limbo, and the implementation of a number of initiatives in the humanitarian and memorial spheres is being artificially hampered.

Vanin added that compatriots in Latvia have the right to speak and study freely in their native language, they can study the culture and history of their ancestral homeland.

“This is the only way the ‘Russian world’ outside our country can preserve its unique identity and pass it on to the next generations,” he concluded.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that one of the tasks of the Russian authorities is to strengthen the multi-confessional and multi-ethnic Russian world.
