Seattle digital art museum

A museum entirely dedicated to digital works of art protected by certificates of authenticity (NFT, Non Fungible Token, non-fungible tokens) has opened in Seattle, USA. According to AFP, the museum presents original works, which are accompanied by explanations with the help of what technologies they were created.

According to one of the founders of the museum, Peter Hamilton, this is almost an ordinary exhibition, only the paintings are not painted on canvas, but are depicted on the screen. And absolutely anyone can admire them, for this you do not need to know anything about digital art.

It is worth noting that NFTs have recently been in great demand on the art market. These tokens are a record of the creator of a digital painting, information about all its sales, owners and value. Certificates of authenticity make the works unique. Although an image can be copied multiple times, only one that has an NFT will be considered authentic. As museum workers point out, there are many copies of the Gioconda (Mona Lisa), but the one that hangs in the Louvre is still considered the original painting.

Investors and collectors are actively acquiring virtual items whose ownership can be tracked using blockchain technology. In March 2021, auction house Christie's sold a digital work by artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann) for a record $69.3 million.
