The creation of a joint research nuclear reactor with Russia and a center for nuclear research and technology on its basis is becoming a promising scientific project, Andrey Kuzmin, director general of the Joint Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research - Sosny, confirmed.

Speaking at the BelTA press center on February 14, the scientist explained that it was not only about the creation of the reactor itself, but also "certain industrial, scientific complexes that consume neutrons produced at this research facility." And now, he specified, an intergovernmental agreement on this issue is already being worked out.

As already reported, the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences, together with Rosatom, signed a memorandum of intent on cooperation five years ago and held bilateral specialized seminars. During this time, the main technical requirements for a research center based on a multipurpose research nuclear reactor and the main elements of a draft agreement between the governments of Russia and Belarus on cooperation in its construction were developed.

The creation of a joint venture of the Union State, experts believe, will significantly increase the economic efficiency of the project, promote the expansion of ties and areas of cooperation, increase the degree of integration and become another important milestone on the way to the formation of a single scientific and technological space of the two fraternal countries in the field of the use of atomic energy.
