NYT: Zelensky is trying to prevent panic, but there is little room for maneuver

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is no longer optimistic about Russia. At the same time, he has less room to maneuver to find a way to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, writes The New York Times.

“Perhaps the most acute security crisis in Europe since the end of the Cold War is coming to a head. But the 44-year-old Ukrainian president is clinging to a strategy he's been pursuing for months: Zelenskiy uses every public appearance to warn people against panic and overreaction. Such behavior seems almost delusional, given the serious risks his country faces, ”the authors of the publication write.

Ukraine's ambassador to the UK, Vadym Prystaiko, had previously retracted his words, saying that Ukraine would not reconsider its plans to join NATO in order to prevent a war with Russia.

Prior to this, Prystaiko, in an interview with BBC Radio 5, said that Ukraine could refuse to join NATO in order to avoid a war with Russia in the allegedly existing conditions of threats and blackmail. He added that Kiev can "show flexibility."
