France opposed Ukraine's accession to NATO

French presidential candidate from the Republican party Valerie Pecresse opposed Ukraine's accession to NATO. She said this during a speech at an election rally in Paris, TASS reports.

“With Ukraine, we must be frank and tell her that the admission of the country to NATO is not on the agenda,” the presidential candidate said.

She stated that if France wins the presidential elections, she will propose the creation of a new organization for European security from the Atlantic to the Urals. According to her, in matters of security, the European Union must take fate into its own hands.

Pekress also opposed the federalization of Europe, which erodes the identity of European countries.

Earlier, Pekress, in an interview on the France 2 TV channel, appealed in Russian to the people of Russia "to build peace in Europe together."

Prior to this, the presidential candidate from the right-wing National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, said that France needs to get rid of the logic of military blocs and leave NATO. Le Pen also promised to reform the European Union, replacing it with the European Alliance of Nations, if she is elected in the presidential elections in April 2022.
