In the event of an “invasion”, Russian troops will face the 1st Tank Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which can successfully conduct defensive operations, such an opinion was published in Forbes magazine.

According to him, there are 20 military brigades operating in the country, four of which are armored.

In particular, the 1st tank brigade is stationed on the border with Russia and conducts active combat training. It consists of three tank (equipped with T-64B) and one motorized infantry battalion (equipped with infantry fighting vehicles). Each of them has about 400 people and 40-50 cars.

The brigade also has auxiliary forces: three artillery battalions (with 2S1 and 2S3 howitzers, BM-21 rocket launchers) and air defense troops (equipped with tracked missile launchers, Strela-10 and Tunguska guns).

The author of the article notes that the 1st Tank Brigade is practicing defensive and counteroffensive maneuvers, which is much easier and more effective for it due to the nature of the combat operations of mechanized units.

“Russian soldiers, formed into battalion tactical groups right across the border with Belarussia, live in tents in the cold and snow, which has an obvious and cumulative effect on their health and morale. In anticipation of a possible attack, the 1st Tank Brigade is stationed on a permanent basis in the barracks and trains in the area that it may defend, ”the Forbes columnist noted.

According to him, the brigade was recreated in 2014, seven months after the Crimean events, and in 2015 got into heavy fighting near the Donetsk airport. Then the Ukrainians lost about two dozen tanks. The brigade commander was captured and returned to Ukraine five years later after an exchange procedure.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said that Kiev would not regain control over certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by force.
