Source: Germany expects concrete steps from Russia to de-escalate around Ukraine

Germany expects Russia to take steps to de-escalate the situation around Ukraine, TASS reports citing a source in the German Cabinet.

“From our point of view, it is important that there are concrete steps to de-escalate,” he said.

The source added that Berlin positively assesses the fact that negotiations with Moscow are being conducted at different levels.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz's upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be important, he said.

Scholz and Putin will hold talks in Moscow on February 15. According to unconfirmed reports, first of all, politicians will discuss the situation around Ukraine, and bilateral relations will also be affected. Another topic of negotiations will be the Petersburg Dialogue forum, which has now been suspended.

Earlier, the German Bild wrote that the head of the German government allegedly seeks a "new beginning" in relations with Moscow. According to the publication's sources, Scholz is going to take the issue of building relations with Russia under his own control.
