Poll: French consider Turkey and Russia a threat to their country

According to a survey conducted by the American research agency Harris Interactive, among foreign countries, the French are most afraid of Russia, Turkey, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, China and Mali. An honorable first place in the list is occupied by Turkey, which is considered a threat by 56 percent of French citizens, according to the Daily Sabah.

Respondents consider European states as allies of France in the first place, in the trust rating among which Italy, Spain and Germany are in the lead. The French are wary of the United States and Great Britain. Only 53 and 40 percent, respectively, are ready to see these countries as allies of France.

Such a sharp deterioration in relations with Turkey is due to the state-controlled media portray this country. And they describe it not at all in a rosy light, since Ankara has repeatedly criticized the policy of Paris in Libya, Syria and other countries of the eastern Mediterranean.

Moreover, Erdogan repeatedly spoke sharply about French policy towards Muslims, accusing Paris of Islamophobia. The Turkish leader was outraged not only by French laws against Muslims, but also by loyal attitudes towards neo-Nazi groups that operate almost openly in the country, and the police are not eager to investigate their crimes.
