The photograph was taken in front of a canvas depicting Marshals Georgy Zhukov and Jean de Tassigny, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, General Dwight Eisenhower, and soldiers celebrating victory in World War II.
"What a picture behind them!" - admired one of the users. "I'm chained to the painting behind them," wrote another commenter. "That's right... Allies," another user noted. The commentators also recalled the recent visit to Moscow by British Foreign Minister Liz Truss, and expressed the hope that the meeting of defense ministers went much better, RIA Novosti reports.
On Friday, at a meeting in Moscow with his British counterpart Ben Wallace, Sergei Shoigu discussed the most pressing problems of European security and interaction between the military departments of the two countries. Wallace also viewed an exhibition dedicated to the history of military cooperation between the USSR and the allied states during the Second World War. He noted that he remembers the sacrifices that the Russian people suffered during the Second World War and other previous wars.
