The French leader earlier on February 12 held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they expressed their readiness to continue the dialogue on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the discussion of security in Europe. It was noted that their conversation was an attempt to ease the growing tension in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

On the same day, Putin phoned US President Joe Biden in connection with the situation around Ukraine.

Politico, citing sources, wrote that Biden earlier, during a conversation with the leaders of allied countries, stressed that Russia could allegedly attack Ukraine on February 16. At the same time, European partners expressed doubts about the possibility of military aggression. A UK official said they have a "different interpretation" of the intelligence. Two EU officials reacted with even greater skepticism, stressing that Europeans "still refuse to believe it."
