The Russian Embassy condemned Canada for the decision to supply weapons to Ukraine

Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov commented on Ottawa's decision to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. It is reported by TASS.

He noted that any supply of weapons to a country "with an unresolved internal armed conflict is unacceptable." According to the diplomat, "this does not bring peace closer," but only "prolongs and aggravates the fratricidal conflict in Ukraine."

He also stated that "by providing weapons, Western countries are pushing the Kiev regime to continue the war against its own people."

Stepanov added that Russia "calls on the Canadian government to refrain from such actions."

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the country would provide Ukraine with $6.1 million worth of lethal weapons.

Before that, the Canadian Ministry of Defense said that on February 4 they sent a C-177 Globemaster military transport aircraft with another batch of non-lethal weapons to Ukraine.

The story of a possible “Russian invasion” of Ukraine has been actively promoted in the West since mid-autumn last year. The US has consistently pointed to a supposed increase in Russia's presence near Ukraine's borders, threatening Moscow with new sanctions if it escalates. At the same time, the Kremlin has more than once directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine, on the contrary, pointing to the possible preparation of a military operation in the Donbass by Kiev.
