Russia - A psychologist told how to determine a teenager's passion for sniffing

Russia (bbabo.net), - Sniffing - inhalation of hydrocarbon gas vapors to achieve the effect of hallucinations. In the last couple of years alone, more than half a thousand teenagers officially died from this type of substance abuse in Russia. Why is sniffing dangerous?

“Sniffing is a fairly new form of substance abuse. If earlier “sniffers” inhaled vapors of gasoline or glue, now lighter gas is actively used. It usually contains propane, butane, isobutane, which are neurotropic poisons. Their inhalation causes a disorder of consciousness, increased mobility, a sharp change in the state of ecstasy to incredible anger. A delirium develops, accompanied by visual and auditory hallucinations. At the same time, the teenager feels lightness in the body and elation, which are quickly replaced by severe weakness, headache, nausea and vomiting, "said the psychologist.

First, the cerebral cortex suffers, then the cerebellum and medulla oblongata. If intoxication reaches the last, a fatal outcome is quite possible. With prolonged substance abuse (for one year - two years), irreversible changes occur in the human brain and organs, leading to dementia.

The psychologist advises parents to pay attention to the following nuances of children's behavior - sudden mood swings in a short period of time, increasing irritability, secrecy, isolation, gloom, depression, anxiety. Teenagers who are fond of sniffing may refuse to discuss their problems, isolate themselves from the family. Disturbing factors are unwillingness to introduce relatives to new friends, indifference to studies, sports, past hobbies, the appearance of a feeling of inferiority, an inferiority complex, an increase in social isolation. Other things to watch out for are persistent lateness to school and late returns home, loss of sense of time, increased impulsivity, changes in sleep and wake patterns, frequent airing of one's room, sudden growth or loss of appetite, use of incense, perfume, air fresheners, and breath fresheners.

“If you notice several such moments, it is worth paying special attention to the child. Even if he is not “addicted” to drugs or gas, in any case, you need to talk with him, contact, if necessary, to specialists,” the psychologist added.

Special signs of a drug addict and a drug addict are sudden weight loss, excessive sweating, cold clammy skin, fatigue, frequent colds, stomach pains and cramps, morning weakness against the background of evening activity. They have inflamed, bloodshot, swollen or "glassy" eyes, often dilated or too constricted pupils, boils and sores around the nostrils, colorless fingers. They are characterized by incoherent, slurred or fast and hasty speech. In girls, against the background of the use of toxic substances, disruptions in the menstrual cycle may occur.

“In the initial stages, it is quite possible to cope with sniffing,” the doctor assured.
