The head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken, said that the US diplomatic mission in Ukraine is temporarily moving from Kiev to Lviv. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“In view of the significant build-up of Russian forces (near the border with Ukraine), we are temporarily moving our embassy in Ukraine from Kiev to Lviv,” the Secretary of State said.
He noted that American diplomats will continue to coordinate efforts with the Ukrainian authorities aimed at de-escalating tensions on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
The Wall Street Journal wrote, citing American officials, that embassy staff in Kiev must destroy network equipment and computers before moving - such an order came from the State Department.
Earlier, Reuters reported that the World Bank was temporarily removing employees from Ukraine, fearing for their safety amid reports of hypothetical Russian aggression.
Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed citizens who had gone abroad, saying that if they did not return within a day, the country would draw “serious conclusions.”
