The son of the head of Turkmenistan nominated as a candidate for the presidency

Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been nominated as a presidential candidate in Turkmenistan, RIA Novosti reports with reference to local media.

The son of the current head of state was elected during the ninth extraordinary congress of the country's Democratic Party. He addressed the audience with a speech and received approval from the participants.

A citizen over 40 years old who speaks the language can become the president of the country. He must also permanently reside and work in the territory of Turkmenistan for 15 years. As a result of elections, a politician is elected head of state for a term of 7 years.

Earlier, the current president of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, announced the need to give way to young people on the way to governing the country "at a new stage" of its development.

“I support the idea that the road to public administration at a new stage in the development of our country should be given to leaders brought up in a spiritual environment and in accordance with the high requirements of modernity,” the head of state said.
