Russia - The State Duma strengthens measures to protect children from pedophiles

Russia (bbabo.net), - The State Duma in the second reading adopted a bill on strengthening measures to protect children from crimes against sexual integrity.

The changes were developed by deputies of different factions under the leadership of State Duma Vice Speaker Irina Yarovaya (United Russia).

In the first reading, the initiative was adopted back in 2018. The updated version of the document has been prepared taking into account the position of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

According to the initiative, imprisonment of up to one year will threaten for harboring serious crimes committed against children under the age of 14 years. Also, as a punishment, a fine of up to 100 thousand rubles, forced labor for up to one year is possible.

At the same time, concealment of especially grave crimes is punishable by a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles, or by forced labor for up to two years, or by arrest for up to six months, or by imprisonment for up to two years.

As follows from the note to the amendment, a person is not subject to criminal liability for an unpromised concealment of a crime committed by his spouse or close relative.

The Basic Document, which was adopted on first reading, suspends the statute of limitations for crimes against young children until the victim reaches the age of majority. In addition, it establishes mandatory psychological support for children during the investigation. New aggravating circumstances are also being introduced - for those who live together with a child, are responsible for him or teach in schools and kindergartens.

“It is important for us to protect children from violence. From those who can use their position for such crimes,” said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.
