It became known why Peskov missed the opening of the Olympics

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov was forced to miss the opening of the Olympics in Beijing due to infection with "omicron" - a strain of coronavirus. He told about this to the Baza Telegram channel.

The politician confirmed his illness, specifying that he worked remotely for eight days.

According to sources, he suffered a mild illness.

Last month, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin instructed to ensure the maximum possible transfer of meetings of deputy prime ministers, the government apparatus, as well as federal ministries and departments, their territorial divisions and subordinate organizations to a remote format.

Also, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian officials will not take part in the Munich Security Conference, which is scheduled for February 18-20 and will be held in person for the first time in two years.

In addition, Peskov explained that the unusually large distance between Putin and his interlocutors in recent times is also due to the complex epidemiological situation. He noted that a week ago Russia was "at the peak of the wave", but now the numbers have gone down.
