Russia - Tu22M3 and MiG-31K aircraft deployed to Syria for Russian Navy exercises

Russia (bbabo.net), - On Tuesday, February 15, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the deployment of Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers and MiG-31K fighters with the Dagger hypersonic system to the Khmeimim airfield in Syria. It is said that their crews will be involved in the naval exercise of the inter-fleet grouping of the Russian Navy in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

"The crews of the Russian Aerospace Forces completed a flight from their deployment points, covering more than 1.5 thousand kilometers. During the exercise, long-range aviation pilots will have to perform tasks for their intended purpose," our military department informed.

It is known that Russian naval maneuvers in the Mediterranean are closely monitored in the West. This, among other things, is done by the sailors of NATO aircraft carrier groups, which include the aircraft carrier Harry Truman of the US Navy, the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle of the French Navy, and the aircraft carrier Comte idi Cavour of the Italian Navy, accompanied by attack ships and support vessels.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation recalled that in accordance with the training plan for the Russian Armed Forces for 2022, in January-February, a series of naval exercises are being held in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the general supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov. "The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the forces of the Navy and the Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the oceans, as well as to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from sea and ocean directions," the department stressed. They added that the naval exercises cover the waters of the seas adjacent to Russian territory, as well as operationally important areas of the oceans.
