On February 15, Leonid Anfimov, head of the headquarters of the observer mission from the CIS countries, reported on the full pre-launch readiness for holding a republican referendum on amending the country's Basic Law, BelTA informs.

And although the members of the headquarters will not have time to visit all polling stations before February 27, they see their main task in dialogue and constant contacts with the territorial commissions. According to the head of the headquarters, coverage of all territorial bodies of the republic has already been completed by one hundred percent. In addition, meetings were held with the leadership of the Supreme Court and the prosecutor's office, issues of ensuring law and order during the referendum and in the apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were discussed, Anfimov explained.

According to him, "the situation in the republic is normal. And everything is ready to hold the referendum calmly, in accordance with international norms and the internal legislation of the republic." Answering the journalists' question about the number of international observers, the head of the headquarters confirmed that the interest in the referendum is very high and constructive. By Tuesday, 70 observers had been accredited in the country, 23 had applied for registration. He believes that, in addition, another thirty people will add to the list.

As for the mission of observers from the Commonwealth countries, Anfimov explained that it started monitoring the referendum on the first day of February. By the way, this is the eleventh time they have taken part in the Belarusian monitoring. True, he added, the main group of observers from the CIS will arrive in the republic 2-3 days before the event and will observe in all regions of the Republic of Belarus, being present at the opening of polling stations, observing its process and the procedure for summing up the results. In total, it is planned to involve up to 120 experts from the CIS in monitoring the republican referendum.
