Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - The Ministry of Culture has suspended public discussion of the draft decree "On Approving the Fundamentals of State Policy for the Preservation and Strengthening of Traditional Russian Spiritual and Moral Values," RIA Novosti reports with reference to the ministry's press service.

"This is necessary to develop new approaches to the preparation and discussion of the document, which would take into account all the opinions, arguments and comments received by the developers," the Ministry of Culture said in a statement.

The document, developed by the D.S. Likhachev Research Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage together with experts, was published in January on the official portal of legal information. During its public comment period, 1,479 responses were received. 100,760 portal users voted in favor, 78,928 voted against.

In addition, the draft was discussed in the Public Chamber with the participation of seven commissions, experts, deputies, scientists, public figures, most of whom supported the document and expressed their readiness to continue working on it.

However, there were many criticisms in the professional environment. So, more than 30 filmmakers signed an appeal to the Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, in which they expressed concern about the possible adoption of the project. Leading theatres, including Alexander Kalyagin, chairman of the Union of Theater Workers, also spoke out against it.

Given this discussion, the need to find new approaches to the development of the document is obvious, the Ministry of Culture concluded.
