Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphones have abandoned the Samsung Messages app for SMS

Sources say the Samsung Galaxy S22 series smartphones come preloaded with Google Messages for default messaging in the US market.

Samsung Galaxy users may have previously installed the Google Messages app on their devices after purchase, but the app was not previously set to use by default. As reported by 9to5google, US variants of the Galaxy S22 series not only have the Google Messages app preinstalled, but also provide support for RCS (Rich Communication Services), a more advanced version of text messaging.

The goal of the Rich Communication Services standard is to modernize SMS with features familiar to everyone from other messengers, such as input indicators, read receipts, high-quality photos, and more.

Of course, Galaxy S22 users can always go back to Samsung Messages and set it as their default messaging app.
