Makei: All Russian soldiers will leave Belarus after the end of the exercises

Not a single Russian serviceman, not a single piece of equipment will remain on the territory of Belarus after the Allied Resolve-2022 joint exercises with Russia, Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei confirmed on February 16 at a press conference dedicated to the results of the past year.

Giving an assessment of the current development of international relations, the minister explained that it was precisely the political turbulence that affected most regions of the world that affected Belarus, which came to a conceptual rethinking of its foreign policy and foreign economic priorities. At the same time, he expressed his conviction that the Union State and the Eurasian Economic Union over time will be even more attractive to other states of the planet.

"There has been a conceptual rethinking of our foreign policy and foreign economic priorities," the minister stressed, explaining that the country is developing relations with those who are ready to cooperate on the basis of mutual respect and equality. First of all, he noted, the Republic of Belarus is interested in developing and deepening relations with a strategic partner, ally, fraternal power, which is Russia. At the same time, the country seeks to develop cooperation in other areas, with other countries and regions.

In this regard, he said that Minsk and Beijing are discussing bringing relations to a higher level, noting that China is a strategic partner for Belarus. "We are interested in cooperation with those countries that open the door for us," the minister stressed. "Now a number of specific projects are being discussed related to the further opening of the Chinese market for our goods," Makei explained, adding that, in his opinion, " During the upcoming contacts, the leaders of the two countries will discuss a number of important issues that will lead to further deepening and strengthening of cooperation."

Stating that the Western sanctions pressure continues to increase, and its goals are not even disguised, the minister said that the Republic of Belarus was chosen as a country that should be exemplarily punished. In this regard, giving an assessment of the past year, he was forced to admit that most of the time and energy had to be devoted not to creation, but to confronting a number of challenges and threats that directly affect national interests. "We had to defend sovereignty and independence in the direct sense of the word," the minister specified.
