Svenska Dagbladet: Russia has created the most powerful armed forces in Europe

Russia has now reached the highest combat readiness in many decades. And this applies both to efficiency and mobility, and to the technical potential. Such conclusions about the state of the Russian army were made by leading Western experts and analysts interviewed by the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

The publication provides detailed data on the state of the Russian army.

"The modernization of the Russian army has led to the fact that today it could defeat all the armies of Europe - unless the United States helps them," says Ben Aris, a well-known analyst and expert on Russia, editor-in-chief of Business New Europé.

The head of the American analytical group CNA, Mikhail Kofman, for his part, expressed the opinion that the idea of Russia as a country that is degrading economically and whose days as a global power are numbered is wrong. "Since 2008, Russia, on the contrary, has acquired the most powerful armed forces in Europe, and now it is at the highest combat readiness in many decades - both in terms of efficiency and mobility, and in terms of technical potential," the publication notes. Kofman stressed that the United States has long neglected such a transformation because it has focused more on the growing threat from China.

Marie Dumoulin, head of the Wider Europe program at the think tank of the European Council on Foreign Relations in Brussels, also noted the increased power of the Russian army. "Since the early 2000s - and most notably since the conflict in Georgia in 2008 - the Russians have invested an incredible amount of money in the military, and today Russia has a highly functional army, capable of conducting operations, including very far from its own borders. “We saw this in her participation in the Syrian war, for example,” Dumolin concluded.
