Russia - Volunteers who save an old open-hearth shop in the Urals asked for help

Russia (bbabo.net), - In the city of Sysert near Yekaterinburg, volunteers continue to restore the open-hearth shop of the former plant. They want to turn this place into a public space and not let the monuments of architecture completely collapse.

The ironworks on the Sysert River was built in 1732. A working settlement arose nearby, which later became the city of Sysert. Almost 20 years ago, the plant, which was a city-turning enterprise, stopped working. Many buildings have fallen into disrepair and are being destroyed.

Local historian and public figure from Sysert Alexander Savichev has been preserving factory buildings, which are architectural monuments, for several years. Savichev writes and publishes books, created the Sysert plant-museum, and together with volunteers is engaged in the preservation of factory buildings.

- Since the city has ceased to be an industrial center, we have the opportunity to turn it into a tourist center, - says Savichev.

The dominants of the factory complex - the buildings of the blast furnace and open-hearth shops - are in disrepair. Therefore, an inspection of the open-hearth shop, which has no roof, is now planned. Volunteers are raising funds to study the state of the supporting structures of both the workshop building and the stone retaining wall of the canal embankment, on the bank of which the "Marten" was built.

These works are necessary for the preservation of important monuments not only for the city, but for the entire industrial Urals.
