The European Union refused to send observers to the referendum in Belarus

The European Union does not plan to send an official delegation of observers to the republican referendum on changing the constitution in Belarus, RIA Novosti reports.

At the same time, according to a representative of the EU Foreign Ministry, citizens of the EU countries can independently go to Belarus and register as observers.

The constitutional referendum in Belarus will take place on February 27.

In December last year, the Belarusian authorities published a draft amendment to the country's basic law. One of the main points is the change in the term of office of the head of state.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called himself a supporter of two presidential terms.

According to the head of state, at the forthcoming constitutional referendum the Belarusians will assess the activity of power structures in the republic.
